Five things to squeeze in before summer slips through your fingers — and none require a reservation, a suitcase or a fat wallet.
• Listen to live music outdoors
Catch a concert, local band or outdoor performance. Even a few minutes of music can turn an ordinary summer evening into a lasting memory.
• Watch a sunset or sunrise
Slow down long enough to watch the sky change completely. A sunset offers a rare chance to step away from distractions and simply appreciate the moment.
• Read a compelling book outside
Sunday is "National Read A Book Day." Pick up a library book or memoir and read it outdoors instead of scrolling on your phone. The right book can slow time and temporarily quiet everyday worries.
• Take a walk or bike ride to… anywhere
Forget about the destination and enjoy the journey. Walk through a neighborhood, park or unfamiliar place—and use the time to think, talk, vent or simply notice what's around you.
• Dine al fresco
Take your meal outside, whether it's at a restaurant patio, picnic table, park bench or backyard. Summer dining is as much about the setting and time spent together as the food itself.
Bonus: Catch a lightning bug — because sometimes nostalgia is the best reason of all.
