LETTER: Accountability is a must on City Council

Editor: Throughout my career in accounting, I learned that responsible decisions require more than good intentions. They require careful planning, attention to detail and accountability for how resources are managed. Those are qualities I believe matter just as much in local government, and they are among the reasons I support George Williamson for Punta Gorda City Council.Every decision made by City Council has a cost and a consequence. Residents deserve leaders who will ask questions, look carefully at the numbers and make sure taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly. At the same time, we need to plan ahead for infrastructure, public services and the needs of a growing community. I believe George understands that responsibility. He brings a practical approach to decision-making and recognizes that City Council has an obligation to be a good steward of the resources entrusted to it. He is willing to listen, do the homework and consider the long-term impact of decisions rather than simply focusing on what is easiest today. Punta Gorda is a wonderful community, and keeping it that way requires thoughtful leadership and sound financial judgment. I believe George Williamson will bring both to City Council, and I am pleased to support him in this election. Diane Lange Punta Gorda
