Letter: Concerned by Miller-Meeks' priorities

The Immigration Coalition of the Quad Cities consists of close to 200 members representing over a dozen organizations. We are very disturbed and concerned by some of the recent headlines concerning immigrant and refugee policy in our nation. For example: 'Refugee Admissions Continue to Drop Sharply in Trump's Second Term' (Pew Research Center), 'Legal Pathways for Immigrant Children to Stay in U.S. are Being Reduced' (Politico), and 'ICE will Reportedly Release Body Camera Videos only when in Agency's 'Best Interests' (Associated Press). Knowing that the U.S. House of Representatives is on break until mid-September, the coalition has reached out to Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks in the hopes of having a face-to-face conversation to share our concerns and our ideas for improvement. These are important issues affecting many across the nation, including within the Congresswoman's constituency area. We reached out to her office on Aug. 11, knowing that she had been recently in town, making an appearance at Davenport Guns & Shooting Club to celebrate Shooting Sports Month. We were told that 'the Congresswoman's schedule has filled for August recess, and she is unable to meet with your group,' leading us to conclude that hearing constituents' concerns regarding immigration and the treatment of immigrants are not as high nor as important as gun rights.
