LETTER: Reality burns up climate change hysteria

Finally, a refutation of the popular narrative that wildfires are getting worse with every year that passes. Aidan Thomas wears a Smokey Bear t-shirt as he watches smoke from the Airport Fire rise behind Meander Lane in Trabuco Canyon, Calif., on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024. (Jeff Gritchen/The Orange County Register via AP) I appreciated the RJ's lead article in Sunday, August 30 editorial section ('Up in smoke?'). Finally, a refutation of the popular narrative that wildfires are getting worse with every year that passes. It's simply not true and Bjorn Lomborg, a respected, credible authority whose work and opinions I have followed for some time presented factual data to support his premises. The man-made climate doomsday promoters have had their day and have been proven incorrect on many points. Dr. Lonborg presents facts that contradict the common narrative that climate change requires immediate and urgent amelioration. Basically, the climate will change in cycles. It always has and always will. When the climate is looked at myopically and shortsightedly, errors will be made in its examination. But an unemotional, historical data-driven inspection of climate reveals that changes will take place and corrections will happen as they have for millennia. Thanks are in order to the RJ for this unbiased, revelatory piece.
