Letter: Fifty years of watching Napa change

Wouldn't it be interesting if an old guy like me could get a book published detailing his 50 years of life here in Napa? Chapter 1 would describe what things were like back in the late 70s before the Lombard Station Railroad Crossing came about, and when one might have to wait for long freight trains to cross Highway 29, and when one might encounter an old bull in the road up around what's now The Doctor's Company. I do believe that the Napa sign up around the rock quarry then indicated that one was entering a town with a population of about 34,000 working people. Chapter 2 could then be written to include our Napa River "bridge to nowhere" that had all of us baffled until the Southern Crossing was eventually completed. Chapters 3, 4, 5, 6, etc. could include all the good and bad that has taken place here in Napa between back then and now. I believe that our population is now approaching 80,000 people, and that long-time residents and real working people now play second fiddle to tourists. A final chapter could be added describing how some things, however, have not changed one little bit, since several of the good old boys and girls of yesteryear are still in the driver's seats.
