Killeen reader asks why TxDOT has left high weeds along Highway 195

To the Editor: Hey, TxDOT. What's up with high weeds on State Highway 195? You're making Killeen look like a scruffy city. TxDOT, are you running low on funds or something? Maybe you need to divert some pocket change from some of your never ending multibillion-dollar I-35 projects? TxDOT, you do know that if I as a citizen of Killeen allowed my property to look like 195 does, I would get a red card notice from my friendly city Code Enforcement officer to clean it up by a certain date. I would also get a letter threatening fines of up to $2,000 per day. It doesn't matter to the city if my lawnmower is broken and I can't afford a new or different one. It doesn't matter if I'm old and sick and can't afford someone to mow for me. My high weeds and grass will be cut or there will be consequences. I guess TxDOT doesn't have to adhere to such standards because they are the government, so they MAKE the rules but don't have to ABIDE by them like tax paying citizens do. Such is Texas governmental hypocrisy that is on display most every day. Peter Stanonik Killeen
