Vote 'no' on all three constitutional referendums

Wisconsin's Republican legislators are attempting to fool voters this fall with three amendments to our state constitution. As usual, they twist their words to make voting 'yes' seem like the obvious option. At the end of his term, Gov. Scott Walker and the GOP-controlled Legislature quickly passed bills aimed at weakening the powers of incoming Gov. Tony Evers. Now they want to restrict our next governor's veto powers even more. Vote 'no' on the first question. During the Great Depression, the governors needed a check on the budgeting process. In 1930, Wisconsin citizens voted to give veto power to our governor. It worked. We must vote 'no' and protect our next governor's veto powers. The second question would prohibit government closure of places of worship during emergencies. It prevents public health officers from doing their jobs and endangers countless lives in any future pandemics. The third question would prohibit granting preferential treatment or discrimination based on race, gender, color, ethnicity or national origin in public employment, contracting or administration. Discouraging diversity and threatening equality is wrong. It encourages us to repeat hateful actions from our past. Vote 'no' on all three amendments.
