Ipswich shoppers warned not to eat Sainsbury's product

A batch of olives sold at Sainsbury's have been found to contain listeria monocytogenes, which can cause flu-like symptoms and, in rare cases, complications such as meningitis. The affected product is the 120g Inspired to Cook by Sainsbury's pitted black olives, with use by dates of September 6, 7 and 10, 2026. Two teenagers from Framlingham were confirmed to be receiving treatment for meningitis B last week. Customers are being warned to not eat the product and instead to return it to their local Sainsbury's store, where they will get a full refund. Sainsbury's has four stores in Ipswich, located on Upper Brook Street, Hadleigh Road, Woodbridge Road and Felixstowe Road. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: "Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. "However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis. 'Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.'
