DVLA boss, check this! Ekow Bodee Opinion Sep - 07 - 2026 , 09:57 2 minutes read I went to the DVLA designated centre at STC on Monday, August 31, 2026 to renew my roadworthy. That was after I had seen that my papers had expired for some weeks. I was directed to place my papers in a box and wait in the visitors' room for an invoice to be generated for me to pay. I waited for 15 minutes and got up to enquire about the reason for the delay. An insider told me they were waiting for invoices from the head office, so I should exercise patience. It took 45 minutes before I received a message on my phone regarding the amount to pay. Subsequently, I received my papers to go and pay the required amount. At the payment place too, they objected to MoMo pay. They accepted only cash, and I had to walk to the STC yard to get a vendor to withdraw the money to pay. Finally, I got the keys to my vehicle after nearly two hours of waiting. Many drivers who had come to renew their roadworthy documents were equally concerned about the delays at the DVLA Office. Some said they has been there since 1pm and were still there as at 4:30 pm. They complained bitterly about the fines imposed by the DVLA for the late renewal of documents. Last year, when I renewed my papers at the DVLA Office at Baayard, Awoshie in Accra, I spent just about 30 minutes at the place, where Momo was also accepted as a form of payment. My questions to the DVLA boss: ● • Why should drivers spend two hours or more to renew their papers in this technological age? ● • Why should customers wait for almost an hour before invoices are generated for customers to proceed with the renewal of their papers? •●Is DVLA retrogressing or progressing? I will advise DVLA to follow the example of the insurance companies by ensuring that customers receive advance notices before the expiration of their roadworthy documents. That will help them to renew their roadworthy certificates in advance to avoid any penalty. The unnecessary delays and penalties for the late renewal of roadworthy at DVLA must stop!
