Aontú hits record high in latest opinion poll

Aontú has recorded its highest level of support in the latest Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks opinion poll. The party has risen by one point to 8%, marking its strongest result in the series of polls. Sinn Féin has meanwhile returned to the top of the standings, rising one point to 21%. Joan Collins (Right to Change), Cian O'Callaghan (Social Democrats), Michael Collins (Independent Ireland), Micheál Martin (Fianna Fáil), Simon Harris (Fine Gael), Katie Hannon, Roderic O'Gorman (Green Party), Peadar Tóibín (Aontú), Ivana Bacik (Labour), Richard Boyd Barrett (People Before Profit-Solidarity) and Mary Lou McDonald (Sinn Féin). The Social Democrats remain unchanged on 10%, while Independent Ireland is also unchanged at 7%. Labour and the Green Party each stand at 3%, with People Before Profit-Solidarity on 2%. Taoiseach Micheál Martin's rating increased by two points to 37%, while Fine Gael leader Simon Harris recorded no change. Conal Thomas, Political Correspondent with the Irish Independent and Sunday Independent, said: 'Interestingly, Aontú, which only has two TDs, has actually hit a record high at 8% this month. This is good news for Peadar Tóibín and his party.' The poll was conducted among 1,044 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1%.
