KP motorists can now carry driving licences on mobile phones

LAHORE – The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police has introduced digital driving licences across the province, allowing motorists to keep their licences on their mobile phones. Under the new system, motorists can access their e-licences through a mobile application by entering their CNIC number. The digital licence appears on the user's phone within minutes. Traffic officials in Peshawar have been instructed to recognise the e-licence as legally valid. They have also been told not to fine motorists who present the digital version instead of a physical driving licence. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Peshawar Dr Muhammad Zahid said the introduction of digital driving licences marked an important step towards using technology to modernise traffic policing in the province. The initiative is expected to make it easier for motorists to access their driving credentials while reducing the need to carry physical licences.
