Could Saints Target LSU Players in 2027 NFL Draft?

For a long time, the idea of the New Orleans Saints having players who went to LSU was crazy. For some reason, even when the former Tiger may have made sense for the Saints, the addition would just not happen. But when Kellen Moore was hired as HC, there was a concerted effort to add players from Louisiana or players who went to school in Louisiana. This was an interesting move by Moore, but it did make sense. Recruiting is a vital piece of college sports, and for a team like LSU, it's easier to get players from Louisiana. Playing for a team that represents the state is important for these players, and this stays true in the NFL. Free agency is the NFL's version of recruiting, and although money is a major factor that, most of the time, ends up being the most important one, coming back home to play has significant influence as well. We saw this when the team brought in Justin Reid and Travis Etienne. The importance of having a connection to Louisiana does not stop at free agency, and it's why the Saints have had more interest in LSU players, as we saw with the selection of Barion Brown. That Louisiana connection is a goal for the Saints, and in the 2027 draft, they should have major interest in this talented current LSU roster. We just saw LSU beat Clemson 51-10, and no doubt, the players that I'm about to point out are on the Saints' list of top options. The first player is the defensive MVP of the game. Jordan Ross was a monster off the edge for LSU, finishing with one interception that went for a touchdown and 1 sack (one other tackle seemed like a sack but was not counted as one). He was expected to be a highly sought-after pass rusher entering the season, but I don't think anyone expected this type of start. For the Saints, this edge rusher group is a major position of need, with Cam Jordan set to retire. Another standout defensive player for LSU, Whit Weeks had an incredible game at linebacker. He commanded the defense and consistently read the opposing offense. Although the Saints' LB position is not a top need, Weeks would be a major upgrade in that room and could create an NFL best with Kaden Elliss and Danny Stutsman. Last, but certainly not least, is TE Trey'Dez Green. The Saints just drafted Oscar Delp and have a really good room with Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant, but with the offense utilizing more TEs in 2026, the more the merrier. Johnson is not young, so finding his successor is important, and although that should be Delp, Green would create an incredible duo with the former Georgia Bulldog.
