Story captured why picking up a chick at the NYS Fair transforms us (Your Letters)

To the Editor: Compliments to Steve Featherstone on an enjoyable, accurate, poignant, elegantly written article 'How to pick up chicks at the NY State Fair' (Sept. 4, 2026). We gave our California-native son-in-law a thorough, all-day, in-depth tour of his first state fair. His indisputable top experience was picking up a chick. It was everything you described. It was transformative. And we all basked in his rapture. Your article captured my theory that picking up a chick refills that part of us that is trampled and squashed by the brilliant, high-intensity sensory overload that the New York State Fair can be. And we return every year for all of it. Megan Sollecito Baldwinsville
