Editor,
My name is Rhonda Ferrell, and I am a breast cancer survivor. As a nurse, I also helped countless patients through their own cancer journey. Now that I am retired, being an advocate for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network is near and dear to my heart.
Every day, lawmakers at every level of government play a critical role in shaping policies that are vital for people with cancer, caregivers and people at risk of cancer. That's why I am calling on our North Carolina Senate candidates Michael Whatley and Roy Cooper to sign the Cancer Promise (https://www.cancervotes.org/cancerpromise). Candidates who sign our Cancer Promise pledge to support evidence-based public policy solutions to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Whether it's funding for research or giving more people access to lifesaving care, our federal lawmakers have immense power to impact the fight against cancer.
To candidates Whatley and Cooper, we have also invited you to individual coffee chats to talk about cancer policy. We are ready and waiting to hear where you stand on cancer issues. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rhonda Ferrell
